W. Lee Maloy, Ph.D., Registered Patent Agent
Dr. Maloy joined Wilcox & Aceto in July 2009, after a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and with the National Institutes of Health. A registered U.S. Patent Agent, he also has considerable experience as a research scientist and intellectual property (IP) manager. He previously spent ten years as a researcher at the National Institutes of Health in protein, peptide chemistry and immunology, and has over twenty years of experience in the biotechnology and life sciences industries, including designing and developing peptides, steroids and antibodies as new drug products. His work has appeared in 124 scientific publications and he is an inventor on 14 issued U.S. patents. Most recently, for the last ten years Dr. Maloy managed the IP estate for Genaera Corp., which included preparing and filing patent applications, as well as overseeing the prosecution by outside counsel of both U. S. and foreign patent applications, which resulted in the granting of over 100 patents.
In addition to patent work, Dr Maloy has managed the work of outside counsel handling trademark applications, negotiated material transfer agreements and confidentiality agreements, and advised senior management on license agreements. He also has considerable hands-on experience in drug candidate manufacturing and GMP drug analysis, as well as an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of preclinical drug development -- expertise which is particularly valuable in preparing patent applications covering new drug candidates.
